23 Questions with Dallin Pepper: Five Guys, James Sprague, Cavapoos and Elon Musk

Fresh off an impressive 7th place finish at the 2023 TYR Wodapalooza, Florida resident and CrossFit Naples athlete Dallin Pepper looks ready to take his CrossFit game to the next level. The 21-year-old, newly married, three-time “Fittest Teen on Earth” is also looking to build on his 10th place finish in last year’s Open and 19th at the CrossFit Games. But who is the man behind this newcomer who has officially arrived on the scene? We caught up with Pepper for the first edition of our 23 questions (in honor of the year) to see just who is the guy behind that steely look and smile. Log In. Favorite food or drink before a workout? Honestly, just Sour Patch Kids. Any sour candy, we always have sour candy at the gym so that’s what I’m always snacking on. Favorite food or drink after a workout? Every night after a competition I go to Five Guys and I just pound burgers, fries and a root beer. Double double, everything on it, it’s awesome. What is your favorite cheat meal? I’m a big fan of apple fritters and ice cream. Usually just from the grocery store but it has to be a good one. I made this rule where I say no to donuts during the season unless it’s an apple fritter and then I will eat it. What’s your favorite piece of CrossFit equipment or movement? I would say my favorite piece of equipment is a D-Ball. I’ve spent a lot of time with the D-Ball now. Least favorite piece of CrossFit equipment or movement? I hate planks. Those are the worst. They go so slow and they’re just boring. Who would be on your CrossFit superteam? Danielle (Brandon), my training partner. Laura Horvath and Jayson Hopper. He constantly leaves his keys in the car and twice now he’s left the car running. And so he will walk away from his car and I will just take his car and park it like 400 meters away and he will come out and just panic and start calling Kia and the dealership. Best part of being married? You have a permanent teammate to just get through everything and it splits the work and it becomes much easier in a lot of ways. There’s always work to continue to grow a relationship too so it’s a rewarding challenge. What’s the best part about living in Florida? Definitely the people. Just being constantly surrounded by my best friends, they’re incredibly people. If you were a UFC fighter, what would your walkout song be? Let’s go with Thunderstruck (by AC/DC). Any favorite TV shows or movies you have watched recently? Usually The Office is on repeat, I love Kevin. I love Game of Thrones and then Marvel movies. Cat or dog person? Dog. His name is Griff and he is a Cavapoo (cavalier poodle). I was actually just scrolling through hero workouts and I believe Griff is two rounds of a 800 meter run forward and a 400 meter run backwards, just a horrible workout. And so it just stuck when he was a pup. Who would play you in the movie about your life? That’s a tough question. I’m gonna say I will play me. Favorite athlete outside of CrossFit? I don’t know who the classic would be but growing up I was big into baseball and I loved Bryce Harper. If you could have dinner with one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? Elon Musk. I would have to come up with some crazy questions, and I’m sure he would have some interesting answers. He’s just a very interesting person, and a very successful person. Last Amazon purchase? Covers for a couch. The 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games are over, you just won, what do you do? Invest my money, buy a rental property. Do you have a role model? I think I have a lot of mentors, I wouldn’t say I have any role models though, I would say I am working to become my role model. I want to be my role model for my past me. I definitely look up to my coach Matt (Torres) and Dom (D’Agostino), and my agent Cooper (Marsh), I go to them for advice a lot. You have one day left on the planet, what do you do? I would spend the morning at the beach and then fly to the mountains. Spending time with my friends and family. I do ski and snowboard but I think I would just want it to be warmer and play cornhole under the shade. What are your plans after CrossFit? Real estate. I like the idea of investing, and I think tangible investments would be a fun way to do it. Do you have a dream job? I would like to fly helicopters. I’ve never been in one before but I just think they’re dope. Favorite number? 99. I couldn’t think of a number when I started playing travel baseball and they needed me to put something done so I put 99 and it stuck. What’s one thing people don’t know about you? I’m a big Harry Potter nerd. I like to take care of my things, I like to keep things nice. It depends on the stuff, garage gym super OCD. But then if you ask my wife that’s a complete lie. I’m very analytical in my training.
