Age Group Semifinals Bring Legends Of CrossFit Back To The Big Stage

Browsing the Age Group Semifinals leaderboard, you might think you’re back in 2013. Rich Froning sits atop the men’s 35-39 leaderboard, trailed closely by Scott Panchik, while Sam Briggs and Stacie Tovar sit comfortably in the top ten in their respective divisions having successfully punched their ticket to the 2023 CrossFit Games. As the sport of fitness continues to age, so do its competitors. But for Games legends, age is just a number, but fitness is for life. Horan finished ninth in Semifinals and will be making her first appearance back at the Games since 2019 this summer. In the 40-44 women’s division, 2013’s Fittest Woman on Earth sits comfortably in fourth place. Though Samantha Briggs claims she is retired from the sport of fitness, the 41-year-old “Engine From England” continues to impress. Not only does the women’s 40-44 division feature a former Games Champion, it has also become the route for long-time Games veteran Rebecca Voigt Miller to punch her fifteenth ticket to the CrossFit Games. The 42-year-old athlete has been to every Games since 2008* and is certainly the title holder for the most consistent Games athlete of all time. The big picture: As the sport of fitness continues to grow and age, so too do its competitors. But age has not stopped a single one of these legends from continuing to perform at the highest level of the sport. *Excluding 2020 due to extenuating circumstances of a worldwide pandemic and a shortened season.
