Ranking the Men and Women Who Qualified for the Rogue Invitational

The 2023 Rogue Invitational is about a month and a half away and we finally have our confirmed athletes who made it through the qualifier. In total six men and six women qualified for the event. Typically the Invitational only qualifies five men and women, but this year it was bumped to six a piece due to a software error on the leaderboard. With that being said, let’s take a look at these 12 athletes and give them a ranking against one another. Log In. We will only be ranking them against the other qualified athletes, not the athletes that were invited from the CrossFit Games as that list is still being announced. Our rankings will also be a little bit different than these athletes’ placing on the Rogue qualifier leaderboard. Men’s Rankings Ricky Garard Travis Mayer Jayson Hopper Victor Hoffer Tudor Magda Garret Clark We have seen that Ricky Garard is capable of competing for a podium spot at any CrossFit competition and this should be no different. He is coming off of a shoulder injury which ended his 2023 Games season early, but all signs point to him being close to a full recovery and he appears ready to go. Travis Mayer, Jayson Hopper, and Tudor Magda will probably do better than a lot of people think, especially since the Rogue Invitational traditionally emphasizes heavy barbells, which these three athletes love. If there is a 1RM max lift event, expect Magda to take a top spot. Just two months ago everyone would have expected Jayson Hopper to receive his invitation from his Games placement, but after his 31st place finish this year there are some questions surrounding his ability. Victor Hoffer, best known for his gymnastic prowess and participation on the CrossFit Games demo team, will be the favorite for any test that involves high rep or high skill gymnastics. Garret Clark, who is relatively unknown compared to the other men on this list, could be a dark horse in some strength events, especially if there is a heavy deadlift. Clark has previously done a 555-pound deadlift for a two-rep max and can likely hit 600lbs. Women’s Rankings Dani Speegle Christine Kolenbrander Manon Angonese Kyra Milligan Lauren Fisher Elena Carratala Sanahuja After missing out on qualifying for the CrossFit Games by just two points at Semifinals, Dani Speegle is going to want to show everyone that she’s still one of the best in the world. The two other women ranked behind her, Christine Kolenbrander and Manon Angonese will be two athletes to watch when it comes to max lifts. Kolenbrander is coming off a second place finish in the “Olympic Total” test at the Games with a 211-pound snatch and a 236-pound clean and jerk. She almost hit 251 pounds, but barely missed the jerk. Kyra Milligan, known for her massive quads, is coming off of her first appearance at the CrossFit Games where she and team CrossFit Mayhem Independence finished seventh overall. With that kind of experience along with the coaching and environment at Mayhem, she may surprise us. Lauren Fisher had two great years in her recent appearances at the CrossFit Games as part of teams Reykjavik and Invictus, finishing 4th in 2022 and 3rd in 2019, but she hasn’t been as successful as an individual. After taking ninth at the 2014 Games she had three straight finishes in 25th or worse from 2016-2018. She also missed out on qualifying for the Games this year by just 33 points. This is an important event for her to regain momentum. Many people overlook this, but Elena Carratala Sanahuja actually competed at the 2022 CrossFit Games where she finished 38th overall. She had a pretty bad placing at this year’s Europe Semifinals (27th), but she may have fixed some holes if she was able to qualify for Rogue. She will be facing steep competition and will have to steal points anywhere she can.
